Post Date: February 6, 2010

A picture of Tamzin looking lovely as Catherine Howard on the set of The Tudors has been added to the gallery. Thank you, Amy.

Cigarettes and Chocolate Pictures

Post Date: February 5, 2010

I found even more Cigarettes and Chocolate pictures. Credit goes to the play’s Facebook page. I wasn’t sure how to organize the pictures, but I’ve tried my best here. I think many of the stills may belong in rehearsals.

Cigarettes and Chocolate Reviews and Pictures

Post Date: February 5, 2010

I found a few more reviews for Cigarettes and Chocolate. A lot of nice things were said about Tamzin’s performance! There are also a few stills with Tamzin in the gallery. Read the full reviews at The Cambridge Student Online and CambridgeTab.co.uk. I think the first performance was February 3, so hopefully more from the play will be available soon.

Tamzin Merchant cuts a delicate, yet fiery, figure at the heart of the play. Her final monologue seems to mean nothing, only for a tear to run down her cheek, heart-wrenchingly demonstrating to the audience how, whilst the words mean nothing, the unsaid means everything. It is a performance that helps to hold the play together, and Merchant demonstrates tremendous poise and composure in the role.

When Merchant speaks, her success is just as mixed. As the play ends, her suggestion to the audience ‘Don’t speak for a day’ doesn’t carry the force of an instruction, and her explanations of what being silent means have an overwrought sincerity [...] she captures the panic that comes with returning to speech magnificently, giving the sort of speech Godot’s Lucky would’ve made had he grown up in Lambeth.

Tamzin in Cigarettes and Chocolate

Post Date: February 5, 2010

Tamzin is currently starring in a play at her school, Cigarettes and Chocolate, as Gemma, the protagonist. You can read the entire article at the Cambridge’s Varsity Online.

Tamzin Merchant was a fragile and fierce Gemma, whose silence seemed continuously precarious, and yet in her theft of the show, other actors were exposed to falter. There was a certain desperation in their creation of self-absorbed stereotypes, each wildly different in the endeavor for a different reaction to be elicited from Gemma’s silence. Lines were often splurged out erratically; I wasn’t persuaded that they hadn’t just spent a couple months learning how to recite at high speed. Perhaps it was a nod to the value of the things that are left unsaid in human contact, but my impression was that they all needed to relax into their roles, and shake off the visible awareness that they were giving a performance in a play sceptical of speech. Only “rich and pregnant” silences, we are told, pierce through modern society’s excessive verbiage, and it was in such silences upon stage that the magic of this production emerged.

Miscellaneous Updates

Post Date: February 1, 2010

Hello, everyone. I took time tonight to fix all the thumbnails in the gallery. They should all be resized and clear now! I added a few covers, set photos (none feature Tamzin clearly), and stills from Casualty 1906 and The Tudors. You can view all the recent pictures here.

For those that have asked, season 4 of The Tudors will, according to this Facebook page, return April 11. Let me know if this is wrong. Hopefully promotion for the new series will begin within the next month!

Lastly, if you are interested in either learning more about Radio Cape Cod or purchasing it, please visit the official website.

Tudors Wives Dream Sequence

Post Date: December 19, 2009

This website has an article about The Tudors concerning the rumored “dream sequence” that all of Henry VIII’s wives will be back for the series finale. I know Tamzin’s character, Kitty Howard, will be featured heavily in the upcoming season, but it’s nice to know that she won’t be completely gone after her character’s exit! Thank you to Admiring Natalie Dormer for the link.

Each of King Henry’s wives had their own style, hence there was never a question of over-lapping of costumes, and as all his wives were going to appear in a dream scene near the end of the series, even though some of the actresses had not worked on the show for a couple of years, their costumes were kept.
